Judy Ramey, Emeritus Professor in HCDE

Judy Ramey, one of HCDE’s founding faculty members and former department chair, has embarked on a new artistic journey in the world of opera.

Professor Ramey has written a libretto for an opera titled Valparaiso, a chamber opera set in a retirement home that "explores the humor and pain, the love and loss, of four residents as they navigate the changes and challenges of advancing age."
 
Professor Ramey is working with UW alumnus Steven Luksan, who composed the score, and the opera will debut with a two-performance run at Seattle’s Horizon House in March 2024. 

Thanks to grant support from 4Culture and Horizon House, Ramey and Luksan plan to bring Valparaiso to audiences across King County, with additional performances in the spring and summer.
